Lake Istokpoga draws multiple anglers to her shores every year. Fish species found in the lake include redear sunfish, bream, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, carp, and bigmouth buffalo.

Despite Lake Istokpoga's area, it is very shallow, with an average depth of only 4 feet. As a result, boaters must be cautious to not become stranded near the shore line. Because it is so shallow, the lake is extremely dangerous for boaters during windstorms, as the waves get quite high.
